Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper Glen Moss has slammed teammates in the wake of their disappointing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Western Sydney Wanderers.
A Brendon Santalab double helped the Wanderers move five points clear of the Nix in the race for the cherished last play-off spot, and the loss at Spotless Stadium on Sunday leaves the Kiwis with a mountain to climb with just four games remaining.
In a candid post-match interview on Fox Sports, Moss said Wellington fielded players who “do what they want”.
“Well we don’t deserve it (finals), put it that way,” Moss said.
“If there’s two teams fighting for that final six position… that’s what we put out there today, that first 20 minutes, they could have been up by four or five.
“We wanted to treat this game like a cup final and that’s certainly not how we went out there.
“We looked like the team that’s jet-lagged, so that’s extremely disappointing.
“We wanted to go in there fresh and hopefully try and use that to our advantage with that hectic travel.
“I don’t know, we’ve got a few players out there that just kind of do what they want, don’t stick to the game plan and it shows.
“Now we’ve got to hope for a few results to go our way.”
Wellington’s final four games are against Newcastle Jets, Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar.
