Gianluigi Buffon has paid Leicester City the ultimate respect, identifying them as the team he most wants to avoid in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Leicester and Juventus both secured their places in the last eight on Tuesday night, downing Sevilla and FC Porto respectively.
While Juve got the job done comfortably, consolidating a 2-0 away win with a 1-0 home victory, the Foxes did it the hard way in typical fashion, overturning a 2-1 away deficit.
Goals from Wes Morgan and Marc Albrighton ensured the Premier League champions would achieve another unlikely feat, this time in Europe’s highest competition.
Speaking to an Italian TV network after the Bianconeri‘s win, Buffon said he is eager to steer clear of the Foxes’ path.
“Even if we achieved a solid result in Portugal and that we were up a man in this game, you still have to remain super concentrated because teams of this caliber can always make you pay in the end,” Buffon told Premium Sport, via calciomercato.
“We have improved a lot and we know that we belong here. We have now made it here 10 straight times and we know that we can eventually go all the way.
“Teams that you would like to avoid? I would want to avoid Leicester City, they are a strong team who have nothing to lose and they can be a difficult matchup.”
