Former France coach: Messi the weak link of MSN trident

Ex-France manager Raymond Domenech has slammed FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, saying he is the weak link of his attacking trident with Luis Suarez and Neymar.

The comments come in the wake of Barca’s incredible Champions League turnaround on Wednesday, when they downed Paris Saint-Germain 6-1 on the night and 6-5 on aggregate.

Barca trailed 4-0 after the first leg in Paris and became the first team to ever overturn that scoreline in the Champions League knockout phase.

Three goals in the final seven minutes of the game saw Barca over the line, with Neymar the star of the show.

While praising Neymar and Suarez, Domenech, who now manages the national team of French cultural region Brittany, called Messi the “worst Barcelona player” in their win.

“The worst Barcelona player in this game, it was him (Messi),” Domenech said.

“He was in the centre of the pitch, like when he does not want to run.

“His bad games, he’s always doing that, he’s coming down, he believes he organises, he wants to do everything.

“I think he’s at the end, but he gave so much, he was so magical. He was on and off, he was missing.

“Neymar was breathtaking because he fought, he believed. Until the end, he was attacking.

“Him and Suarez, but Suarez is different, he should wear boxing gloves.”

Domenech added that he feels PSG’s players and staff will never live down their capitulation.

“You never get over it. Never,” he said.

“They will wake up in the morning, the players, the staff. Even though they had games to play, they’d need to win the Champions League but they won’t have the chance for a year and a half.

“So for now, for at least a year, until they have a new challenge, whatever their results are, it will be written: Barca 6, PSG 1.”
