Two goals in the last 10 minutes of the match saw Chile register a 2-0 Confederations Cup win over Cameroon on Monday morning.

The South Americans controlled the possession and generated a number of attacking chances, yet went into half-time still deadlocked at 0-0 after Eduardo Vargas had seen his goal ruled out for offside by the VAR.

Alexis Sanchez’ introduction off the bench after the break turned the game on its head, however, with the Arsenal superstar’s cross finding Arturo Vidal inside the box to open the scoring.

The VAR would again be called upon in the dying moments, as this time Vargas had a goal initially disallowed by the referee for offside after Sanchez had beaten Fabrice Ondoa, only for the decision to be reversed upon review.

“In this situation, when you have an excellent player of course you try to find a time when he can come on and we wanted to see that. He has had some health issues but he played well and didn’t suffer any more problems,” Chile coach Juan Antonio Pizzi said of Sanchez’ performance.

“The match really required us to do something to score a goal and he’s the right player for that. He’s a very important player and that’s why we put him on.”
