Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has slammed midfielder Paul Pogba for the emotion he showed towards brother Florentin when the pair clashed in the Europa League.
United’s 3-0 victory over French side Saint Etienne marked the first time the pair had faced off at the professional level.
And Keane says Pogba is the trademark of the “modern player”.
“The boy, Pogba, he’s a bit of a free spirit, a bit of a character. But I think it was a little bit over the top tonight – before the game and at half-time,” he told ITV when asked if the emotion between the siblings had an impact on him.
“They’ve spoke more tonight than I have to any of my brothers [Keane has three siblings; Denis, Pat and Johnson] in the last five years.
“It’s all a bit strange. I think when the game started they were focused on the game.
“But all this stuff before and after the game, a lot of nonsense – but that’s the modern player I’m afraid.”
Following their comfortable victory, United will turn their attentions to Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers who they will meet in the FA Cup.
The match will mark the second of four consecutive matches outside the Premier League.
