Brazilian football great Ronaldinho believes that Neymar has reached the “same level” as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The 25-year-old played a starring role in Barcelona’s amazing 6-1 Champions League victory over PSG with two goals and an assist, which saw the Blaugrana progress to the quarter-finals despite losing the first leg 4-0.
Although Neymar finished fifth in the most recent Ballon d’Or race, Ronaldinho says that these performances will no doubt see him lift the prize in the near future.
“Neymar is a close friend and he is Brazil’s greatest idol today,” he told reporters at a press conference in Dubai.
“He’s already at the same level as Ronaldo and Messi and we truly hope that one day he can get the Ballon d’Or and continue his success, but he’s already [among] the top and it’s just a matter of time.”
Although the ex-Barcelona icon has no desire to takeover from the outgoing Luis Enrique as coach of the club, he cannot resit taking the pitch when opportunities such as an exhibition game against the Real Madrid legends comes up.
“No, no, not for me man!” Ronaldinho added when asked about taking the Camp Nou helm.
“I’m not playing professionally right now, but I’m always ready to play — especially in a game like that.
“So, I’m continuing my old training regime and let’s just wait and see, but I’m ready to play.”
