Player Ratings: Manchester City 1 Liverpool 1 – Aguero and Lallana rue missed opportunities

Manchester City and Liverpool have played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Monday morning.

Manchester City

Willy Caballero – 7.5: Made some important saves throughout and played a crucial part in the Citizens gaining a point.

Fernandinho – 7: Filled in at full-back for the majority of the game and defended quite well. Was aided by the fact Philippe Coutinho is severely out of form.

John Stones – 7.5: Has copped some stick this season, but defended like a proper centre-back against the Reds.

Nicolas Otamendi – 7.5: Tackled well and used the ball well. Will only get better under Pep Guardiola.

Gael Clichy – 6: Gave away the penalty which led to Liverpool’s goal, attacked well throughout the game though.

Yaya Toure – 5: Should have seen red for his challenge on Emre Can. Struggled to keep up with the pace and tempo of the game.

Raheem Sterling – 7.5: Electric with his pace for much of the match. Could easily have had a penalty from a James Milner challenge.

Kevin De Bruyne – 7: Assisted the equaliser for City with a superb ball across the box.

David Silva – 7.5: Creative and looked a real threat every time the Sky Blues went forward.

Leroy Sane – 7: Gave Nathaniel Clyne a thing or two to think about and looked dangerous going forward.

Sergio Aguero – 7: Scored the important equaliser, but he missed a lot of chances throughout the contest.

Bacary Sagna – 6: Came on to add some defensive stability.

Fernando – N/A: Given no time to have any impact.

Simon Mignolet – 7: Never put a foot wrong and there was nothing he could do about City’s goal.

Nathaniel Clyne – 6.5: Had his hands full with Sane, but overall he played quite well in such a tough fixture.

Joel Matip – 7: Defended well generally and looked a threat from set-pieces.

Ragnar Klavan – 7: Limited the impact of Aguero with his centre-back partner.

James Milner – 7: Scored Liverpool’s goal from the penalty spot and did well considering he was up against a pacey Sterling. Probably should have conceded a penalty though.

Emre Can – 9: Was immense and looked like a proper No.6 at the Etihad. Was everywhere on the pitch and covered the injured Jordan Henderson very well.

Adam Lallana – 6.5: Got better as the game went on, but will be kicking himself over the sitter he missed towards the end.

Georginio Wijnaldum – 7.5: Used the ball well and looked a threat when the Reds went forward.

Sadio Mane – 7: Saw plenty of the ball, but was lacking end product in his game.

Philippe Coutinho – 5: Severely lacking confidence. Very much a purple patch player and needs to find a way to become more consistent.

Roberto Firmino – 7: Gave everything in the false No.9 role. Linked the attacks up well and won the crucial penalty for the Reds.

Divock Origi – 6: Struggled to impose himself on the match.

Lucas Leiva – N/A: Introduced late into the game.
