Player Ratings: Adelaide United 2 Brisbane Roar 1 – Extraordinary end as Reds win


Adelaide United have clinched 2-1 win over Brisbane Roar in a match that ended in bizarre circumstances.

Adelaide United

Eugene Galekovic –  6.5: His passing was below standard but he did make some crucial saves to stop Adelaide from dropping points.

Michael Marrone – 6.5: Made a couple of important clearances and worked hard going forward to help Adelaide attack.

Dylan McGowan – 7:  Positioned himself well in defence particularly in the first half with all the crosses into the box which he stopped well.

Taylor Regan – 7.5: Backed up his great performance mid-week with another strong showing in defence with important tackles.

Tarek Elrich – 6: His side was involved with a lot of attacks from the Roar but he held his own and continued making his movements going forward like he always does.

Riley Mcgree – 7.5: Solid once again as he made some great challenges and was strong on the ball which helped him not giving the ball away.

Jae-Sung Kim – 5.5:  Gave away too many free-kicks early including a yellow card in the first half which may have been in his mind for the remainder of the match.

Sergio Cirio – 6: Was in and out of the game but was able to score the penalty at the end to seal the win for the Reds.

Mark Ochieng – 6: Lively down the right wing but could not produce the final ball as much as he wanted to.

Baba Diawara – 6.5: Did not get much of the ball but when he did on various occasions, he looked dangerous and scored a great header from a corner.


Nikola Mileusnic – 5: Was not spotted enough when he came on as Brisbane were attacking for majority of the second half.

Jordan O’Doherty – N/A: Came on late in the game to provide extra run for the team but not did get much time on the ball.

Ben Garuccio – N/A: Subbed on late to make sure Adelaide hold out for a draw.

Brisbane Roar

Michael Theo – 4.5: Did not make many saves in this game but was beaten at the near post with the opening goal. Sent off for an elbow on Dylan McGowan in the last minute of the game which resulted in the matchwinner from the spot.

Jack Hingert – 7: Always looking to go forward and created great crosses into the box but to no avail.

Avram Papadopoulos – 7: Strong in the air especially against Diawara and was good in defence despite his team conceding twice.

Jade North – 5.5: Not at his best as he was beaten to the ball by Diawara which resulted in the opening goal.

Corey Brown – 6.5: Created an option going forward including an assist but at times looked exposed in defence when his team gave the ball away.

Thomas Kristensen – 7.5: Solid game as he did his job in the midfield and was involved with their goal.

Brett Holman – 6: Hardly noticeable in the first half, different second half as he looked much more threatening.

Matt McKay – 6: Worked hard in attack and defence all game in the first half but an injury in the second half forced him off.

Arana – 5: Did not see much of the ball on his wing but when he did, he was not threatening enough.

Jamie Maclaren – 7: Nullified in the first half but got more involved in the second half and scored a goal.

Brandon Borello – 7: Solid match as he got the ball a fair bit on his wing but not as much in in dangerous positions to worry Adelaide’s defence.


Joe Caletti – 6: Was good on the ball and did not make any noticeable mistakes. Provided a point of difference for the Roar.

Shannon Brady – 5: Was not spotted enough on the ball when he was subbed on midway through the second half.

Nicholas D’Agostino – N/A: Not enough time to make an impact.
