N’Golo Kante has been a star in Antonio Conte’s midfield, but how does he compare to one of Chelsea’s fan favourites?
It is the most discussed comparison in world football – is Kanté better than Claude Makélélé? Well, we finally have the answer thanks to exclusive stats from our friends over at daily Fantasy Football game www.oulala.com…
With a wider-range of statistics available from the Premier League since 2006, Makelele’s last two season’s at Stamford Bridge are compared to Kante’s 19 domestic starts for Chelsea and the previous campaign at Leicester.
The Frenchman needed little time to adapt to Antonio Conte’s system after making the move to London at the beginning of 2016-17. Kante has recorded just shy of three tackles per game so far, while his average of 3.7 interceptions is more than triple what Makelele could manage.
The 25-year-old also narrowly leads in terms of blocks, while he also commits less fouls.
However, Chelsea legend Makelele still reigns supreme in the areas of blocking and successful passes each outing.
Is this a sign that we should now be referring to the position as ‘the Kante role?’
