Manchester United may face Chelsea in the FA Cup on Tuesday morning with no striker in the side following injuries to Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial.
Jose Mourinho’s side will head to Stamford Bridge with their attacking stocks almost depleted, after it was announced that the captain had sustained an injury in a training ground knock with Phil Jones. A similar incident involving the pair in 2013 forced Rooney to wear a head bandage for the next month for protection on the pitch.
Fellow striking options Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are also sidelined with injury, compounding Mourinho’s selection woes as first choice Zlatan Ibrahimovic begins a three match violent conduct ban for his fiery clash with Tyrone Mings in the recent 1-1 draw against Bournemouth.
With the likes of James Wilson also unavailable with injury, the ‘Special One’ is said to be looking at playing Marouane Fellaini – who had played as a forward under Louis van Gaal – or Henrikh Mkhitaryan as a false No.9 against the Blues.
Ibrahimovic has recorded 15 Premier League goals this season, while Rooney has two goals and five assists to his name.
United failed to find the net when the sides last met at Stamford Bridge October, where Chelsea ran out to a dominant 4-0 win.
