Luke Brattan: My Brisbane Roar comments were taken out of context

Comments he made on Thursday about the dominant Brisbane Roar teams of the early decade were taken out of context, Melbourne City midfielder Luke Brattan says.

Brattan, who spent seven years with the Roar and won three championships, said the City team he is a part of can boast a better squad than any of those Brisbane teams.

Former Brisbane teammate Brandon Borrello fired a barb back at the central-midfielder on Thursday’s Daily Football Show, pointing out such claims could not be backed up without silverware.

Speaking exclusively a day later on Friday’s Daily Football Show, Brattan insisted his comments were taken the wrong way.

“The reporter when I said it, he was a bit surprised and I think he took it the wrong way to what I actually meant,” Brattan said.

“No disresepct to Brisbane. The squad we had was phenomenal. I won three championships there, it was some of the best times of my career. I’ll never forget that.

“There’s always people out there that are going to take it the wrong way.

“If they know me personally, then they know it wasn’t a dig at Brisbane at all.”

City face Perth Glory in a sudden death elimination final at AAMI Park on Sunday and could set up a semi-final Melbourne Derby barring other results.
