Jamie Young’s penalty shootout heroics against a 10-man Western Sydney saw Brisbane progress to the A-League semi-finals on Friday night.
The Wanderers would take a surprise lead on the stoke of half-time at Suncorp Stadium through Terry Antonis’ converted penalty. This was cancelled out soon after the break, however, as star striker Jamie Maclaren equalised from close range.
The deadlock would remain throughout the rest of regular time and although Jaushua Sotirio was given his marching orders – the added periods as well – meaning a penalty shootout would be required in the first A-League final of 2016-17. After both sides hit their opening five spot-kicks in-a-row, Tommy Oar’s sixth and Young’s save against Jumpei Kusukami would prove decisive for the home side.
Here are the best reactions to come from Twitter after the result:

As soon as Jumpei stepped up my instant thought was that this game was over. Surely the keeper would have been a better pick? #BRIvWSW
