Giorgio Chiellini describes Juventus’ 3-0 win over Barcelona in the Champions League as an “historic” result for the club.
A brace from Paulo Dybala, plus a 55th minute header from the defender saw the Bianconeri take a commanding lead in the quarter-final tie.
Following the victory, Chiellini praised the efforts of his fellow defensive players and goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon for their ability to shut down the menacing Barcelona attack – which has now failed to score in their last two outings.
“It’s obvious that we did something important,” he told reporters after the match.
“We were able to stop Barcelona from scoring and that is historic.
“For Barcelona to not score in two out of the last three games is almost impossible – we were great, especially Buffon.”
The 32-year-old Serie A veteran says that Juventus will take confidence from this result to hold their lead at the top of the domestic table and for when they meet Barcelona at the Camp Nou for the second leg on the 20th of April.
“We showed a lot of personality that will help us in this final part of the season, both in Serie A and in the Champions League,” he added.
