Borussia Monchengladbach have announced midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud is set to leave the club at the end of the season to link up with Bundesliga rival Borussia Dortmund.
The 21-year-old has signed with Dortmund until the end of the 2021-22 season, despite rumoured interest from Premier League clubs including Liverpool.
Reports have suggested that a €10 million release clause needed to be met in order to secure the German youth international’s signature in the upcoming summer transfer window.
“Mo Dahoud is a hugely talented and exciting player for central midfield and one we have been watching intensively for several years,” Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc told the club’s official website.
“He has already shown he can play at the top level.”
While fellow sporting director Max Eberl said Monchengladbach would only invest the money in the right type of player who suited their needs.
“It was important for the player and the club that a decision was reached. Now it’s off our minds and we can move on,” he said.
“We will reinvest the money we get for Dahoud and try to find a good replacement for him.”
2016[-17 has been a strong season for Dahoud, with the central midfielder making 32 appearances across all competitions.
