Bayern Munich launch legal action over Joshua Kimmich rumours

Bayern Munich has slammed rumours linking young midfielder Joshua Kimmich with a move away from the club earlier in the season.

Reports from German publication Stuttgarter Zeitung suggested former manager Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Red Bull Leipzig were set to go head-to-head for his services in the summer.

But Bayern has been quick to deny any speculation insisting the 22-year-old has a contract to honour.

“This is a monstrous fallacy,” club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in a statement.

“This story lacks any foundation. Joshua Kimmich has a contract with FC Bayern until 2020 and will definitely play for the next season for FC Bayern.
“Bayern Munich has immediately taken legal action against the Stuttgart newspaper.”
Kimmich has failed to hold down a regular starting place under manager Carlo Ancelotti this season, having made 15 starts in his 25 appearances in the Bundesliga.
But with the retirements of Xabi Alonso and Phillip Lahm looming large, he is expected to see more minutes next season having shown an ability to play at right fullback and in the centre of the park.
Having already been confirmed as Bundesliga champions, Bayern will close out their season and continue the trophy celebrations at home to SC Freiburg on Saturday.
